Scope and ethics

Clear boundaries are part of competent practice.

The Intero Somatic Coach Certification is professional education in non-contact somatic coaching. It teaches body awareness, nervous system literacy, embodied inquiry, relational skill, practice selection, complete session design and responsible professional judgement.

What the programme does not confer

Consent and choice

Practices are invitations, not tests. Learners are taught to explain purpose, offer alternatives, respect a refusal, adapt for context, and stop when continuing would reduce choice or move outside competence.

Strong responses

Activation, shutdown, blankness, disorientation, strong emotion and unexpected disclosure require proportionate decisions. Sometimes the appropriate response is to stay with words, re-orient, pause, stop, collaborate, or refer to an appropriately qualified professional.

Local responsibility

Somatic coaching is an unregulated occupation in many countries, but local rules differ. Graduates remain responsible for checking applicable law, professional-title rules, insurance, safeguarding duties, consumer obligations and requirements attached to any existing profession.

Emergency and clinical care

Intero education is not emergency support. A coach should not attempt to replace urgent medical, psychiatric, safeguarding or crisis services.
